This week is Holy Week, the week before Easter. Ewan Kennedy, my pastor at Church of the Redeemer, wrote an amazing Holy Week devotional (The Most Holy of Weeks).
In today’s devotional Kennedy asks the reader to examine John 12:1-7. In this passage, Mary pours expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet. Martha is working away. Lazarus is hanging out, and Judas complains.
“Dear Jesus, on Monday, with Mary, we wept at your feet and anointed you for burial. Meet us in our tears. We have such longing.” -The Most Holy of Weeks
My Lover, my God, Your love covers my fears and pain. I pray that, with Mary, I pour out my love for you every moment. May your peace surround me with such confidence that I may sacrifice my prized possessions, yes, even myself, for your glory, for your kingdom. I long for Your presence as a bride longs for her groom. Fill my longing with Your presence. Work in me to have a heart that kneels before you every day to pour my life out for You.
How are you feeling as Easter approaches? Does your heart stir with longing? What are your thoughts?
