What’s your favorite memory of your childhood?
My favorite memory of my childhood is when my dad was reading Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis. We had just come to when the trees had started moving toward the army when a rainstorm rolled into our campground. Our tent started to flood, so my mom, dad, and I huddled in the middle of the tent with a flashlight, imagining the roar of thunder to be the roar of trees as they descended upon the fight.
Do you believe in Love at first sight?
Sort of, because I definitely thought my husband was very attractive when I first met him. We almost immediately wrote each other off though when we met because he thought I was an airhead, and I thought he was terribly arrogant. Thankfully, our at first sight attraction lived through our at first sight decisions.
What is ‘beauty’ according to you?
Beauty is confidence. When I see a woman who is entirely confident in who she is but humble in her interactions with others, I see beauty.
What do you do to keep yourself fit?
Oh, this is fun! I love movement. It’s the friend of fighting off fibromyalgia. On my best days, I do a Zumba class. On my worst days, I go for a brisk walk. I get to go to physical therapy to help with the pain of fibromyalgia after which my husband said I actually had abs.
What’s your favorite food?
Easy! A Frutella Bowl from Frutta Bowl. The base is acai berry with banana. Granola is sprinkled on top with slices of banana and strawberries. All of this is topped with peanut butter and nutella. It makes me feel good and satisfies my sweet tooth.
How do you like to relax?
Taking a hot bath with Epsom salt, reading, journaling, and meditating
What’s your favorite book?
My favorite non-fiction book is Cultivate by Lara Casey. This book helped me to find a way to pursue good habits and give myself grace. My favorite children’s book is The Lost Princess by George MacDonald. It is a beautiful story of grace for a princess who learns to overcome her shortcomings.
How do you connect to God?
Every morning I have my journaling and Bible reading time. Right now I am going through a bible study with my church called Behold Your God by John Snyder and reading through 1
I also love to pray with God while taking a hike in nature. There is something about the light and noises of nature that helps me clear my head and focus on what truly matters.
My husband and I love to pray together. Many times this is during one of my fibromyalgia flares, trying to thank God and praise Him through it. Sometimes I simply crawl into bed with Nick in the mornings, snuggle up to him, and ask for him to pray for me. The pain can be great in the mornings, but if I know that I have another prayer warrior praying for me, I have more strength to face the day.
What’s your message for women bloggers struggling to succeed?
Keep at it. Do it for yourself. If you encourage someone else along the way, that’s great. It amazing how writing a blog helps you to be more articulate with ideas and dreams in day-to-day life.
Who is your role model and why?
I don’t have one role model but have many women in my life who have characteristics that I would like to emulate. I have been blessed with having mentors in several inspiring women from my church. Women writers are also encouraging to me: Lara Casey, Holly Gerth, Emily P. Freeman, and Jen Wilkin are among my favorites. I was greatly inspired by the Gospel Coalition Conference I went to this past summer. I leaned over to a friend of mine and said, “Someday, I want to be one of those women.” I want to be bold in my faith, speak
